In order to provide high-quality diesel which are qualified for off gas standard, refining companies normally utilize following methods: 1) adopt high quality desulfurize catalyst to remove dimethyl acetopheonone and other sulfur compounds; 2) to adopt sulfur resisting arene catalyst to make the saturation of arene and hydrogen is performed is under pressure, cost will be extremely reduced by this method; 3) the technology to raise cetane index. With these methods, bio-diesel quality will easily achieve ¡°international fuel standard¡± diesel standard II or III.

The regular petroleum diesel fuel has a carbon chain that contains 15 carbon atoms. Plant oils have carbon chains that range from 14 to 18 carbon atoms in length, similar to that of diesel fuel. Therefore, the biodiesel is a new fuel which can be refined from renewable vegetable oils. According to the analysis on chemical composition, biodiesel is a mixture of fatty acid methyl esters obtained from transesterification of triglyceride rapeseed oil with methanol. Biodiesel owns superseding performance compared with ordinary diesel, details are as follows.

1) Nice environment-protection characterics: since the lower sulfur contents, emission of sulfur dioxide and sulfide by biodiesel will be reduced by 30%, or 70% in case of catalyzers involved. As the biodiesel contains no environment-polluted content like aromatic paraffin, less damage than petroleum diesel to human. Biodiesel is able to reduce air toxins by 90%, and the cancer rate by 94% compare with ordinary diesel. Biodiesel fuel has naturally high oxygen content that facilitates the combustion process, leading to lower carbon monoxide output by 10% compared with petroleum diesel, or by 95% in case of catalyzers involved. The degradation degree of biodiesel is quite high.

2) Capable of initiating engine at lower temperature: CFPP (Cold Filter Plugging Point) could reach 20 Celsius degree under zero without additive treated.

3) Well lubricated performance: it will reduce the wearing rate of injection pump, engine stator and connecting rod clevel and lengthen their life cycle.

4) Better safety property: with higher flash point, biodiesel is more safer for transportation, storage, and usage.

5) Well combustion performance: with higher cetane number, combustion performance of biodiesel is better than that of diesel, besides, slight acid property of combustion residue lengthen engine¡¯s life.

6) Renewable: as a renewable energy, the supply will not be exhausted with efforts of agricultural and biological scientists.

The indicators of waste emission by biodiesel engine not only meet the requirements of Europe II, but also more strict emission standard of Europe III. Carbon dioxide emission during combustion of biodiesel is much lower than Carbon dioxide absorption during plant growth, thus improving the green house effect which is harmful for the human beings. All in all, biodiesel is the real ¡°green diesel¡±.
