Dimethyl ether (DME) is a kind of colorless gas with the slight aether flavor. The pressure of its steam at room temperature is about 0.5Mpa. It has very similar physical properties with liquidized petroleum gas (LPG). DME has the properties of inertia, non-erosive, non-cancer hazardous, and almost non-toxic. Dissimilar with diethyl ether, DME will not generate peroxide even with long-time exposure to the air. The saturated vapor pressure of DME is lower than that of LPG, so the storage and transportation of DME is much safer than that of LPG, besides, DME has features of excellent combustion performance, high heat efficiency, non-residue and smokes during combustion, low emissions of CO and NO. DME can be used to blend with LPG, coal gas or natural gas to improve their combustion properties and increase heat quantities. DME with purity higher than 95% can substitute LPG as fuels. It will be an ideal clean fuel to replace LPG. Besides, DME can be used as chemical feedstock for production of spray paint, insecticide, air fresher, fixature, antirust and lubricant.
