Project Significance & Essence
The methylchlorosilane (generally named as the ¡®Organosilicon¡¯), a type of organosilicon monomer, is a new¨Ctyped material in chemical industry with excellent performance and particular properties. Due to its variety in forms and shapes, the usage of organosilicon is penetrated into all levels from the State defense, the war industry, the State economy to the daily lives of our ordinary people. In this way, it is regarded as the ¡®industrial monosodium glutamate¡¯ by the industry. The organosilicon in China, as the industry technology-intensive & capital-intensive and highly value-added, has been undergone a quite steady development speed several-times higher than the GDP¡¯s in recent thirty years. In current ten years the consumption per annum was even accelerated at a 28% speed.

The organosilicon polymers derived from the methylchlorosilane are the brand-new types of high-polymer synthetic materials possessing dual characteristics of both the organic and inorganic materials. Such organosilicon materials, with the outstanding integrated properties, have been extensively used in various areas as the national defense & war industry, space & aviation, electrons & electrics, architecture, machinery, metallurgy, auto industry, apparatus & instrument, textiles, chemical industry, light industry, foods production and medicine & sanitation, which now have become the indispensable core materials in our daily lives and modern society. As its complexity in production and technology difficulties in engineering, many of its sub-industries have been emerged. Therefore, the progress on the organosilicon compounds not only provides new types of high-performance materials in chemical industry but also has driven the development of many other correlated fields as the material industry, mechanical manufacturing, automatization & apparatus and chemical reagents. It can be reckoned that the organosilicon development is one of the weighing factors on the gross national power.

Because of the large capital input, lengthy technology flow and super technology difficulties of methylchlorosilane manufacturing, its yield & equipment capacity on silicon monomer can be thought as a key evaluation factor on a nation¡¯s organosilicon technology level. It is a capital-intensive, technology-intensive and high value-added fine-chemistry product, indispensable in the future technologies of our modern society. Due to its special role in the national economy, most developed countries have all put the organosilicon as a key new materials to develop and Japan even counted it as the core of 21st century advanced technologies, the Plan on Next Generation that closely related to the state affairs.? In China, the State Council also added the silicon monomer into the Current National Catalogue of Key Industries, Products & Economic Forms Encouraged£¨issued in August, 2000£©, to encourage domestic & overseas investment on the organosilicon manufacturing and thereby accelerate the silicon industry of China.

Compared to other types of industries, the silicon industry has its own speciality, i.e. its monomer requires highly-centralized manufacturing while its lower product-lines are rather decentralized. The gross productivity of methylchlorosilane monomer of the few developed countries (USA, Germany, England, France, Japan and etc.) has accounted over 80 percent of the global output, which means the world silicon market is almost monopolized. Centralized manufacturing, advanced technologies, diversified brands and large-scales, all these superiorities have built the silicon products strongly competitive in the global market. It is ever reported that nowadays the world organosilicon sales revenue already exceeded US 8 billion dollars with over tens of thousands different brands and types, nearly 4,000 of which are the most common uses.

The silicon monomer production in our country was initiated in 1950s¡¯, mostly for uses in the army industry.? After 1980s¡¯, the national economy underwent a rocket-speed development, which swiftly extended the uses of silicon materials with its increasing demand. Even though the annual output in recent ten years grew at an average rate of 36%, the domestic demand still cannot be satisfied and still a large amount of elementary polymers & half-finished compounds have to be imported each year to ease the acuity between market demand and supply. Once our project is established, it would become one of the biggest organosilicon monomer production bases in China, equivalent to the considerable large scale of most western countries.

In He¡¯nan Province, so far, there has no organosilicon monomers or polymers manufacturing enterprise holding the national influence. This project, therefore, can make up the blank of the Province and re-arrange the national silicon monomer production structure, accelerate its industrial framework adjustment, replace the products imported, which represents a significant meaning to current national economy of the country.
